¿Contra todo pronóstico?
Para muchas personas en todo el mundo, la idea del «Sueño Americano» sugiere que cualquiera que emigre a los Estados Unidos tendrá una experiencia fantástica y llevará una vida próspera.
Desafortunadamente, en la mayoría de los casos, esto sigue siendo solo un sueño o una vaga idea. Sin duda, esta idea forma parte del imaginario social, y sería beneficioso que estos soñadores observaran algunas estadísticas y cifras que reflejan la realidad.
Es lamentable que muchos de nosotros no nos tomemos el tiempo para revisar estos números, reflexionar sobre ellos y luego tomar decisiones informadas, decisiones que podrían ser significativamente mejores.
Por ejemplo, al examinar algunas estadísticas, podemos observar que el Reino Unido, Dinamarca o Canadá ofrecen, estadísticamente, mejores oportunidades para alcanzar nuestros sueños. Al menos, eso es lo que plantea la idea de Mejorando la igualdad de oportunidades de Raj Chetty.

For many people around the world, the idea of the American Dream suggests that anyone who emigrates to the USA will have a fantastic experience and lead a prosperous life. Unfortunately, in most cases, this remains just as a dream or a vague idea.
This idea is, undoubtedly, part of the social imagination, and it would be beneficial for these dreamers to look at some statistics and numbers that reflect the reality. It is unfortunate that many of us do not take the time to review these numbers, reflect on them, and then make informed decisions, decisions that could be significantly better. For instance, by examining some statistics, we can observe that the UK, Denmark, or Canada provide, statistically, better opportunities for achieving our dreams. At least this is what the idea Improving equality of opportunity by Raj Chetty offers.
Achieving the American dream? According to the following examples, probably we should consider different options, Canada offers approximately twice the chance of achieving dreams compared to the USA:
- USA: 7.5%

Raj Chetty’s research underscores the importance of context, emphasizing that the environment where we grow up significantly influences our chances of success. The following five correlates of upward mobility illustrate how these several factors come into play:

Data are impressive. Chetty explains, “To become an inventor in America, you need two things: intelligence, as measured by your test scores, and coming from a wealthy family.” The environment in which children grow up significantly influences their future. The gap lies in the fact that kids from lower-income backgrounds lack opportunities such as internships, networks, and connections that can lead them to become inventors.
To bridge this gap, it is essential to provide more opportunities to low-income children, benefiting society as a whole. Providing these opportunities is crucial because, through education, we are reproducing a way of life that contains enormous gaps, ultimately making them wider each time. Addressing this disparity will help bring more benefits to our social, political, and economic contexts. In considering the role of policy makers, it is crucial to understand their perspective on this issue. Policy makers play a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape, and their decisions can either help narrow or widen the gap. It is incumbent upon them to create policies that ensure equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
As citizens, our role in this process is equally important. In today’s society, dominated by screens and technology, staying active and engaged in the democratic process is more important than ever. We must advocate for policies that promote equality and inclusivity and hold our leaders accountable for their actions. The question remains: is it possible to run against the odds? The answer lies in our collective efforts. By working together, staying informed, and pushing for change, we can overcome the challenges and create a more equitable society for future generations.
